Take one ‘56 Thunderbird, stuff a supercharged Chrysler 429 in it, then go set some records in Bonneville. First was 173mph in ‘59 which was broken by someone else in ‘60.
Realize that Thunderbirds could be more aerodynamic, so break out the tools and get to work. Return to Bonneville and set new records for the next three years: 217mph in ‘61; 228mph in ‘62; and 241mph in ‘63.
This was “Knot” Farrington’s adventure. Knot owned Knot’s Auto Service where he also built midget and stock cars. Hel’s Angel was his dream car that he named after his wife, Helena. You can see it in person at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame & Northwest Louisiana History Museum in Natchitoches.
